Formula
To convert kilometers per hour (km/h) to miles per hour (mph), you divide the speed by 1.60934. This is identical to the length conversion of kilometers to miles, simply applied over an hour of time.
Speed (mph) = Speed (km/h) ÷ 1.60934
Conversely, to calculate km/h from mph, you multiply the mph by roughly 1.60934.
Speed (km/h) = Speed (mph) × 1.60934
Example
If a Canadian highway sign says the speed limit is 100 km/h:
100 ÷ 1.60934 = 62.137 mph
Therefore, you should not exceed 62 miles per hour to avoid a speeding ticket.
